The 'Privacy Amendment (Private Sector) Act 2000' sets out legislation in relation to the collection, use and storage of personal information. It also gives individuals the right to know what information an organisation holds about him or her and the right to correct it if it is wrong.
The Brisbane College of Theology will support and comply with the new law and the ten National Privacy Principles set out in the legislation.
The information collected from students is for the sole purpose of determining eligibility for the undertaking of educational courses offered by the BCT. It is also used to assess, approve or refuse applications and students' ability to under-take these studies.
Failure to provide full and complete information requested in the Enrolment Form may result in a limited ability or willingness on the part of the College to assess or approve applications for enrolment. If a students has already been already accepted, limited disclosure of information on the Enrolment Form may limit the College's ability to offer or deliver complete educational services or benefits to students.
If applications for enrolment are accepted, the information that students provide in the Enrolment Form will be used by the BCT and its member schools (St Francis' Theological College, St Paul's Theological College, Trinity Theological College) to offer, provide and continue to improve educational services to the student.
The College may also use the information provided by the student for administrative, planning and reporting purposes in connection with the provision of educational services offered by the BCT.
The College will not otherwise use or disclose students' personal information for any purpose without their consent, unless it can be reasonably expected that it is related to the aforementioned purposes.
Subject to the BCT Education Policy as outlined in the BCT Handbook students may at any time request access to the personal information that is collected in the Enrolment Form or otherwise held or acquired by the BCT in relation to them. The College has developed a more detailed document on how the College collects, uses, discloses, keeps secure and provides access to personal information. It has also formulated its own Privacy Policy and Procedures which details the College's position on privacy. A copy of this document is available on request.
