Course Objectives

Educational Objectives: On successful completion of the Master of Theology program, students will have gained a broad knowledge and understanding of the major fields of theological study, along with in-depth understandings in a chosen area of specialisation. Building on previous studies in theology at either bachelor or graduate diploma level, they will have demonstrated, particularly through their thesis, substantial mastery of the skills that underpin theological scholarship and discourse, including the ability to access, organise, analyse, and synthesise theological information, the ability to write and argue effectively in accordance with the conventions and genres of theological scholarship, and the ability to undertake significant graduate-level research. In addition, they will have demonstrated advanced levels of achievement in relation to the postgraduate outcomes identified in the rationale for the Master of Theology program, and they will be qualified for entry into higher research degree programs.

Occupational Objectives: In addition to being qualified to play a leadership role in school- and parish-based religious education, graduates of this program will have met some of the requirements of the ordination/formation programs of the constituent churches. They will also be qualified to assist with tutoring/lecturing at an undergraduate level in their chosen field of specialisation.
