Course Objectives

Educational Objectives: On successful completion of the Master of Ministry, students will have gained a broad understanding of current theory and practice in the fields of ministry and theology. They will have demonstrated the capacity to reflect, both theologically and from a multidisciplinary perspective, on ministerial practices within the Christian Church, and to critique and shape their own ministry in response to these reflections. Graduands will also have achieved in-depth understanding of a significant issue in the theory and practice of Christian ministry through the completion of a substantial piece of postgraduate research. In the process, they will have demonstrated mastery of the essential skills that underpin scholarship and discourse in theology and ministry, including the ability to access, organise, analyse, and synthesise information related to ministry praxis, and the ability to write and argue effectively in accordance with the conventions and genres of theological and ministerial scholarship. In addition, they will have demonstrated advanced levels of achievement in relation to the postgraduate outcomes identified in the rationale for the Master of Ministry course, and they will be qualified for entry into higher research degree programs.

Occupational Objectives: Graduates will be equipped for the ministry of the church as the service of God's purpose in the world and will be capable of engaging in leadership roles within the life of the church or the community. In addition, they will be qualified to assist with tutoring and lecturing in undergraduate courses dealing with ministry and mission, and they will have met some of the requirements for non-theology graduates in the ordination/formation programs of the constituent churches.
