Course Regulations - Graduate Diploma in Theology (GDipTheol)

  1. Entry requirement
    Entry requirement is:
    1. An undergraduate degree from another institution approved by the Academic Committee; and
    2. Completion of the BCT Graduate Certificate in Theology or its equivalent.
  2. Exclusions
    Students who have completed the Bachelor of Theology or equivalent will not be permitted to enrol in the Graduate Diploma in Theology.
  3. Specialisations
    A candidate must take the Graduate Diploma in Theology in one of the following specialisations-
    • Theology
    • Liturgy.
  4. Course of study
    The requirements for this award are completion of 80cp comprising 40cp from assessment level 3 and 40cp from assessment level 4 as set out in the schedule below.
  5. Duration of course
    Unless the Committee of Deans determines otherwise, a candidate must pursue the course over two semesters if full-time or at least four semesters if part-time with a maximum period for completion of 12 semesters, except where an extension is approved by the Academic Committee.
  6. Must achieve grade of PP
    To obtain credit for a unit, a candidate must achieve a grade of at least PP.
  7. Credit for other study
    Credit transfer will be allowed as follows:
    1. In accordance with the provisions as set out in the College's Credit Transfer Guidelines.
    2. 40cp credit will be allowed for a completed BCT GCertTheol on condition that the GCertTheol is surrendered prior to conferral of the Diploma.
    3. The maximum credit transfer allowable (40cp) includes credit allowed under clause (ii) above.
  8. Credit transfer from Master of Theology
    A candidate who holds the degree of Bachelor of Theology and who has completed all of the coursework in the MTheol and no longer intends to undertake the MTheol thesis may make application for transfer of the credit so obtained to be deemed as fulfilling the requirements of the award of Graduate Diploma in Theology.
  9. Graduate Diploma in Theology - Liturgy Specialisation
    Candidates undertaking the Liturgy Specialisation will be awarded the Graduate Diploma in Theology (Liturgy).
  10. Surrender of certificate
    A candidate who holds the BCT Graduate Certificate in Theology must surrender it prior to conferral of the Graduate Diploma.
  11. Articulation
    40cp will be granted towards the Master of Theology for a completed Graduate Diploma in Theology.
