Course Objectives

Educational Objectives: The Graduate Diploma in Theology extends the introductory studies undertaken in the Graduate Certificate in Theology. On successful completion of the graduate diploma, students will be able to demonstrate expanded knowledge and understanding of key content and issues across a broad range of fields of theological study. They will also have achieved greater proficiency in the skills that underpin theological scholarship and discourse, including the ability to access, organise, analyse, and synthesise theological information, and the ability to write and argue effectively in accordance with the conventions and genres of theological scholarship. In addition, students who complete the Graduate Diploma in Theology will have continued their progress towards achieving the postgraduate outcomes identified in the graduate certificate and graduate diploma rationales. In the process, these students will have laid a solid foundation for more advanced studies within the Master of Theology course.

Occupational Objectives: The successful graduate will be equipped and qualified for both school- and parish-based religious instruction, and will have met some of the requirements for non-theology graduates in the ordination/formation programs of the constituent churches.
