Course Objectives

Educational Objectives: Successful graduates of this course will have gained a basic knowledge and understanding of current theory and practice in the field of ministry. In addition, those already engaged in ministry will have gained an enhanced intentionality in ministry as it relates to the church's mission of transformation of the world. Other outcomes will include increased awareness and appreciation of ministry-oriented research, and further development of the skills that underpin scholarship and discourse in theology and ministry, including the ability to access, organise, analyse, and synthesise information related to ministry praxis, and the ability to write and argue effectively in accordance with the conventions and genres of theological and ministerial scholarship. Students will also have been assisted to reflect on their attitudinal and ethical stances in relation to the practice of ministry and their effectiveness in working with a supervisor in developing their ministry. They will have made some progress towards achieving the postgraduate outcomes identified in the rationale for the Graduate Certificate in Ministry.

Occupational Objectives: The successful graduate will be further equipped for ministry in a variety of contexts, such as prisons, schools, and parishes, and will have met some of the basic requirements for non-theology graduates in the ordination/formation programs of the constituent churches.
